Whether you’re already a vegan or transitioning to a vegan lifestyle this list will come in handy to stock up on your kitchen essentials. It is not difficult at all and this Vegan Grocery List will help you plan for your next grocery shop visit for your kitchen.
Vegan grocery shopping is no different. You still get to eat fresh produce, pasta, rice, and beans. The only difference is replacing the meats with plant-based protein, and your dairy with plant-based options too.
Having a handy list available is so helpful so you don’t forget to get any of the essentials that you need; from spices to pantry items, to all the delicious foods.
I created this Vegan Grocery List as a way to keep you organized and it is so helpful even if you’re already vegan or a newly vegan.
This post goes over everything you need for your Vegan Grocery List.
Vegan Grocery List | The Ultimate List of Kitchen Essentials You Need For a Vegan Lifestyle
Vegan Grocery Shopping Tips
For our own personal shopping, I go to Publix, a supermarket available throughout Florida.
- The best time to go grocery shopping is in the morning. You will easily find where to park, and you will park close to the entrance.
- Another benefit of going in the morning you will find fresh produce and most likely everything will be in stock.
- Take advantage of the Buy One, Get One Free deal. This will save you a lot of money in the long run.
- Stick to a list of things you need so you don’t end up buying extra items.
If you would like a quicker option, you can always order food from Amazon Fresh. Another food delivery service like Ibotta (earn cash on everyday purchases) or Instacart (use my code ROSORTO147).
How much do I spend on vegan grocery shopping?
Because I stick to my list, I end up spending money only on the things I need. My only exception is if I see a Buy One, Get One free that I know I will end up using later.
I’m a single mom, and I have one daughter. I go to the grocery store once a week, and each trip is around $50 or less. So in a month, I end up spending around $200 or less.

Vegan Grocery List: Grains
I cannot live without my grains! Whether it’s rice or bread, I like it. Grains are such a staple in my pantry but if you need to go the gluten-free route, there are plenty of options. You can check out my favorite gluten-free options in my Kind Lifestyle eBook and I share how to go vegan.
Grains:
• Bread
• Cereal
• Noodles
• Oat
• Pasta
• Rice
Vegan Grocery List: Protein
Animals do not have to die in order for us to obtain a good source of protein. There is plenty of plant-based options that are delicious too. I always have a variety of beans, lentils, and more depending on the dish I’ll be making.
Plant-based proteins:
• Black Beans
• Chickpeas
• Lentils
• Seitan
• Tempeh
• Tofu
Vegan Grocery List: Nuts
Nuts are another great source of protein. Having nuts at home you can make delicious plant-based milk, nut butter, salad dressings, and much more. In my Kind Lifestyle eBook, I share how to make your own milk and I share how to go vegan.
Nuts:
• Almonds
• Cashews
• Peanuts
• Pecans
• Pistachio
• Walnuts
Vegan Grocery List: Sweeteners
These plant-based sweetener options are great to replace honey. Bees make honey for their own use and you won’t contribute to stealing their hard work. I always have agave and maple syrup available in my kitchen.
Sweeteners:
• Agave
• Maple syrup
• Molasses
The Bee Movie is a great example of why honey should not be used for human consumption.
Vegan Grocery List: Seeds
Seeds are a great source of protein. You can add seeds to soups, salads, yogurt, and anything else. Plus it is a great way to garnish any dish.
Seeds:
• Chia
• Flax
• Hemp
• Pumpkin
• Quinoa
• Sunflower
Vegan Grocery List: Leafy Greens
The most important part of any meal should be your leafy greens. I try to make sure to have a side of vegetables at every meal. For example, if I make a smoothie I add greens, if I have a soup I add a side of salad, and so forth. Greens add life to your body.
Leafy Greens:
• Arugula
• Collard
• Kale
• Romaine Lettuce
• Spinach
• Watercress
Vegan Grocery List: Milks
There’s plenty of plant-based milk to choose from to replace cow’s milk. Personally, I enjoy cashew milk for its creamy texture, and my second favorite is almond milk. Great to have for smoothies, cereal, baking, and more.
Plant-based milks:
• Almond Milk
• Cashew Milk
• Coconut Milk
• Hemp Milk
• Oat Milk
• Soy Milk
Vegan Grocery List: Oils
Depending on the type of food you will be making, there are some oils best for cooking and some oils better for salads. It depends on the temperate of the food or the flavor you are trying to add to your dish. I go into more in detail about this in my Kind Lifestyle eBook.
Oils:
• Avocado Oil
• Canola Oil
• Coconut Oil
• Flaxseed Oil
• Olive Oil
• Sesame Oil
Vegan Grocery List: Herbs
Adding herbs to your food is a good way to add flavor to your meals. Even better if it comes from your own garden. With herbs, you can even make easy salad dressings or use them as garnish on any dish.
Herbs:
• Arugula
• Basil
• Cilantro
• Mint
• Parsley
• Rosemary
• Thyme
You can even consider having a grow-at-home herb kit to have handy in your kitchen.
